Canning quick meals is one of the best ways to save time when it comes to making dinner. Thus, I have been involved with canning beef stew , canning taco meat and even canning meatloaf. But have you ever tried canning sloppy joe filling?
It’s actually pretty simple, you will need to dust off your pressure canner for this one. All you will need is some buns, bread, rice, noodles with a salad or veggies to make a quick meal. Pop open a jar or two in a pot and leave to heat up before serving. This recipe makes 8 pint jars, which is more than enough for our family of four. Yay!
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- ground beef
- onion
- bell peppers
- ketchup
- tomato sauce
- beef broth or water
- salt
- ground black pepper
- yellow mustard
- pressure canner
- skillet
- canning jars with rings & lids
- canning utensils
- kitchen towel
- large pot
Fire up the stove and brown your ground beef and drain the fat off. Add the beef and all the other ingredients into the pot. Leave to boil and then lower the heat so they can simmer for at least 5 minutes. Carefully ladle the hot filling into the jars, leaving at least one inch of headspace in each one. Any air bubbles must be removed, then wipe the rim before screwing on the lids.
Process at 10 pounds of pressure for 75 minutes for pint jars or 90 minutes for quarts. Remember with the pressure canner, the processing pressure depends on your altitude. Refer to the canner manual for more information. Allow jars to cool and store in a cool dry place.
