Canning Iced Tea

If you have never tried iced tea before you must try this recipe. For now we will ignore the other posts on this blog on diy homemade tea bags and immune boosting herbal tea blend for example. Instead let us concentrate on this canning iced tea recipe, that my cousin sent me a few years back.

I am almost certain that you can take anyone of your favorite sweet tea recipes, and preserve it using this one as a guide of course. I use a water bath canner which is not only faster but easier to use. However, if you prefer using the pressure canner, then go ahead and do so. This recipe makes 4 pints of instant homemade iced tea concentrate, which in turn makes 4 gallons of tea.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Set your water on medium heat in your stockpot and allow it to boil. When boiling I just add the tea bags to the pot, but you can pour the water into another container before adding the tea bags. The tea bags should sit in there for at least 5 minutes, before you bring the water to a boil again. The next stage is the flavoring one, where you add sugar and lemon juice as needed.

Your jars should have been sterilized and kept warm, ready for packing. To avoid spillages, use a funnel and also head space of at least half an inch. Process in your water bath canner for at least 15 minutes, lift the jars out and leave them to seal on your kitchen counter or table overnight. For each pint jar, I add a gallon of cold water when making some tea. It’s so easy!
