What are you going to do with all the surplus fruits and vegetables, they ask? Well the answer is always a simple one… preserve them of course! I have already shared how to grow pears, how to can pears and even how to dry pears in previous posts. Now that you have the basics, how about you try canning cinnamon pears?
Admittedly, they are plenty of other pear recipes you could probably try. However, if you have a tree that produces as many as ours do, you probably won’t be able to use them all in your cooking. If you have tried the ordinary canning recipe, then you are already a step ahead. This one just has an extra secret ingredient that brings out that ‘cinnamon’ flavor.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- cinnamon red hots---------------------- Advertisement ----------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------- - water
- Fruit Fresh
- pears
- canning utensils
- water bath canner
- canning jars with lids and rings
- melon baller (optional)
- sharp knife
- cutting board
- large bowl
- large sauce pot
Wash and sanitize your jars before first and keep the hot whilst you prep the pears for canning. The pears have to be peeled, cut in half and cored. In order to prevent browning it is recommended that you keep them in a bowl of water with some Fruit fresh added. For the sauce, mix the cinnamon red hots, water and a tablespoon of fruit fresh.
When everything has dissolved, you can then add the pears and allow them to cook in the sauce for a maximum of 5 minutes. All that is left is to pack the jars with the pears, remove any air bubbles, wipe down the rims and screw on the lids. The jars will be processed in your water bath canner. If stored properly, you can keep them for up to 12 months.
