The amount of blog time I give to my chickens, one would think that we only have chickens and no other livestock on the homestead. We have rabbits too, but my girls do a great job at looking after those making sure they have enough homemade organic rabbit feed and water daily. Our diy rabbit hutch has these diy tin can rabbit feeders, installed inside.

Try go buy a rabbit feeder and you will understand why these are a cost effective way to get the job done. Not only that, but you are also re-purposing tin cans, that would have otherwise been thrown away. The project itself is pretty easy, a lot of care has to be taken as you will be dealing with sharp edges.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

• tin cans
• pliers
• utility knife
• hammer
• marker
• can opener
• nails
• soldering iron (optional)

Mark out the section of the can you will be cutting out. It is about 2/3 of the length going down and also 2/3 of the way around. Use the utility knife to cut out this section, leaving it attached on one and and then spread it to open. The pliers is the perfect tool for rolling out all the rough edges.

The hammer will help with flattening out all the edges that you rolled. The big flap you cut out is just folded across. Open half of the bottom lid with your can opener and then fold it in using the pliers to create the slope for the feed. Hammer the nail a few times into the other half to make some dain holes.
