DIY PVC Pontoon Boat

Growing up my dad had a little row boat that we would take out on the small lake near our house. I think that is why I have always loved boats. Having already successfully completed many PVC projects like the diy gravity pvc irrigation system and the diy pvc tomato trellis. The hubby are thinking of giving this diy pvc pontoon boat a try.

We chose this project, based on two things. Firstly, was the affordable cost and secondly was the high probability of actually building something that floats. I have researched many boat plans online before and found most of them too complicated and time consuming. This one however looks doable, Ray built his  in just 1 day.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • 12″ PVC pipe
  • end caps
  • strapping
  • pressure treated wood
  • wood screws and nails
  • handheld drill
  • small off board motor (optional)

You are doing to need some sort of deck for your boat. You can either build yourself one or find one that fits the dimensions of your tubes and just make sure it is reinforced before use. The PVC pipes are attached on either side on the under side of your deck. The strapping is used to secure them in place.

It is very important, that you carry out a float test to make sure your boat floats before actually getting on it yourself. Oars can be used to row the pontoon or you can attach a small off board motor to power your boat. We’ll probably wait till late spring or next Summer to try this, but I felt I should share it anyway. 🙂
