I’ve also tried to include treats that are easily attainable or readily available around the homestead. Without any further ado, let’s dive right into it, shall we?

1. Broccoli

This is a simple and fun treat for the baby chicks. Simply hang a broccoli stalk upside down in their brooder and watch them peck away at it. There’s about 2.8g of protein per 100g of broccoli.

2. Eggs

Yes, you read that right, you can give your baby chicks eggs as a treat. It doesn’t matter whether they are scrambled or boiled, just make sure that they are mashed up really well.

3. Shredded Meat

Any leftover cooked meat from dinner can be shredded into tiny pieces and give as a treat to your baby chicks. Although I prefer to give them shredded beef and pork, I’ve heard that it is also safe to give them chicken too.

4. Meal Worms

If you are looking for a high protein and healthy treat for your chicks, this is it. Meal worms have been recorded to contain up to 20% protein. It doesn’t hurt that the worms wriggle and they can have fun pecking at them too.

5. Alfalfa Hay

Most homesteads have alfalfa hay on hand to feed their livestock. However, did you know that it also makes a great high protein treat for the baby chicks. Give the hay a good shake and then collect all the fine stuff that falls out, feed that to your baby chicks as a treat.
