Homemade Electrolytes For Baby Chickens

The most fragile time, I guess for all of God’s creations is the first few days and weeks of life. This is ever so evident when you are trying to raise chicks, it is so easy to lose a few of them at the blink of an eye. I discovered this homemade electrolyte recipe for chicks, as the best aide for such emergencies.

A simple solution made from four ingredients readily available in most kitchens, it is amazing how fast it works. Within 10 minutes you can see your ailing chicks, start to come back to life. In all honesty, it is better to never have to use this ‘magic’ solution. However, such is life better safe than sorry, right?

Here’s What You’ll Need

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 teaspoons sugar or molasses
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/8 teaspoon potassium chloride (optional)
  • small bowl or glass jar
  • medicine dropper

Step By Step Instructions

Step 1.

Measure all your ingredients and mix well
in the small bowl or glass jar.

Step 2.

Take each chick and apply a few drops to an
open or closed beak.

Step 3.

Repeat Step 2. every 10 minutes or so until
you start to see, an improvement in your chicks.

Another thing you should probably consider before administering the solution is to wrap the sick chick in a warm towel. This will help control their temperature and speed up recovery when the electrolyte solution is administered. This solution is now my GO TO first aid tool for any chick emergency, go ahead give it a try! 🙂
