How To Dehydrate Potatoes

When you grow potatoes you almost always end up with way more than you can eat. We have looked at canning potatoes in a previous post. Today we take a look at how to dehydrate potatoes, the easy way.

I don’t really enjoy peeling potatoes, so I will let my ‘little helpers’ go wild. They do make a mess sometimes but they seem to have fun doing it. This dehydrating method we are using is courtesy of Kristi from TheMindToHomestead.com.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • fresh potatoes
  • food dehydrator
  • sharp knife
  • potato peeler
  • small saucepan
  • mason jars
  • fork
  • bowl

After you peel your potatoes make sure you slice them into slices which are the same thickness. This will make the dehydrating process sooooo much easier. Kristi says she likes to steam her potatoes before laying them on the trays, so you may do that too.

Leave in the dehydrator for 12 to 24 hours at 135 degrees F. Remove them when you feel they have reached the right consistency and place in jars for storage. When you need to use them for cooking first reconstitute in them before you cook them.
