Over the last couple of years, I’ve slowly become a master at preserving food, for long term storage. For example, remember when I showed you how to dehydrate milk and how to dehydrate potatoes? It wasn’t difficult at all, right? Well, I am glad you feel that way, since today we are going to be learning how to dehydrate cheese, in your own kitchen.
The one thing I absolutely love about food dehydrating recipes, is more often than not they are pretty simple and straight forward. This method works well with homemade cheese like farmhouse or feta, because unlike store bought cheese it does not have any extra preservatives. I personally haven’t tried it out yet, but others have been successful using their oven instead of a food dehydrator. You can use the dehydrated cheese cubes in salads, trail mix or as a snack. When powdered use it as popcorn seasoning, cheesy spice mix or biscuits.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- cheese
- plastic wrap
- food dehydrator
- cheese knife
- cutting board
- mason jar
Make sure that your cheese is not too moist before you begin the dehydrating process. If it is, they are instructions on how to remove any excess moisture. The cheese must be cut into 1/2 inch cubes and then placed into food dehydrator. Keep the temperature very low and it should take at least 36 hours to dry your cheese. When dry, you can store it in a mason jar for long term storage, anything from 5 to 6 months. Give it a try, today!:)
