Homemade Liquid Comfrey Fertlizer

I really enjoy organic gardening methods, and even to this day I still make my own organic fertilizers and nutrients for my garden. Today, I discovered how to make liquid fertilizer from comfrey, also sometimes known as comfrey tea.

Comfrey is a herb that is more popular in European countries than here in the United States. However, you can still grow it here and enjoy its fertilizer as well as medicinal benefits such as broken bones, sprains, arthritis, severe burns, acne plus many other skin ailments.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • comfrey leaves
  • bucket or barrel (with lid or cover)
  • water
  • brick or paving stone
  • gloves (optional)

Comfrey is very nutrient rich, mainly because its roots are extensive and reach deep down into the soil to extract the nutrients such as nitrogen and potassium. There are many ways to extract the nutrients which accumulate in the comfrey leaves.

The easiest way is just to weigh the leaves down in a bucket with a little water, and leave the bucket in a warm area for between 3 to 5 weeks. That’s all there is to it!

This liquid fertilizer will initially be a concentrate, it is recommended that you dilute one part concentrate to at the very least three parts water. Otherwise you risk causing major damage to the root systems of any plants you apply it too.
