Homemade Hash Browns Recipe

When I think back at the days we lived in the city and we used to go to the grocery store to purchase hash browns, I often want to slap myself. This is because I discovered this homemade hash browns recipe, that is to die for.

Whenever I add these to the breakfast menu, they are never any leftovers. I love this recipe it is simple and requires a few basic ingredients. Sometimes I like to experiment and just add some random spice like cummin, nutmeg or paprika for that mysterious flavour.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • 6 lbs medium potatoes
  • 2 cups chopped green pepper
  • 2 cups chopped sweet red pepper
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • dutch oven
  • water

Step By Step Directions

Step 1

Put your potatoes in the dutch oven making sure they are covered in water.

Step 2

Bring the dutch oven contents to a boil, before you cover them and leave them to simmer for 15 to 20 minutes. (Your potatoes should be tender but still firm)

Step 3

Leave to cool for about 5 minutes before you peel them and shred them.

Step 4

Take the dutch oven, and saute your onions and the peppers using the butter.

Step 5

It is now time to add the potatoes to the dutch oven. Do not forget to season with a sprinkle of salt and pepper.

Step 6

Your homemade hash browns are ready when they turn a golden brown.

Although you can put these in a Ziploc bag, freeze them and store them in the freezer. I personally prefer to eat them straight off the stove, if possible. Go ahead, give them a try I am sure you and your family will looooove them.
