DIY Old Swing Set Chicken Coop

It just so happens that we have an old metal swing out back, so naturally when I came across this idea light bulbs went off. We already have the diy wood pallet chicken coop and the diy recycled doors chicken coop, so we probably don’t need this diy old swing set chicken coop at the moment.

Nevertheless, it looks like a fun project, that should not be too difficult to complete. If yours is rusted like ours, you may want to give a quick paint job to perhaps extend its life, before using it to build your coop. If possible, try to reuse a lot of the other materials too.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • old swing
  • chicken wire
  • steel
  • netting rings
  • bolts
  • washers
  • nuts
  • iron sheets
  • hinges
  • door frame
  • tape measure
  • cutter
  • saw
  • drill
  • roof ridge

The bare frame of the old swing set, is all you need. Remove any of the extra pieces before you begin attaching the base frame. The iron sheets are next, they need to be cut to size to cover the sides and any left over sheet is used to cover, what we will call the back.

The chicken wire covers the rest of the open area. Then the door frame is attached to the front, followed by the hinges for the door and the door itself. Adding a roof ridge on the top will help prevent any water from dripping into the coop when it rains.
