Slowly but surely, it seems we are achieving that goal to be totally independant of pharmacy bought medications for the simple ailments around this homestead. We are already using homemade sun cream lotion, homemade cough syrup, homemade vitamin C capsules and even migraine reliever juice. In this post, I will be introducing you to what is now probably the most used of all of them, this homemade healing boo boo cream.

Just like its commercially made cousin, this is now our go to solution for all the cuts, scrapes, burns and lots more around here. However, unlike its cousin ours is made from all natural ingredients that include herbs as well as essential oils without the harsh chemicals. It will take about 45 minutes and 8 readily available ingredients to whip up a batch of this antibiotic cream, with most of that time spent cooking and infusing everything together.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

extra virgin olive oil
coconut oil
dried lavender
dried calendula
beeswax pellets
honey (optional)
tea tree essential oil
lavender essential oil
large or small mason jars
coffee filter or cheesecloth
large bowl
medium saucepan
double boiler (optional)

If like me, you have not gotten around to purchasing your double boiler yet don’t sweat it. The old school method of using a large bowl set over a pot with boiling water still works great. There is a lot of heating and playing with hot liquids in this recipe, so be very careful not to burn yourself before the salve is ready for use. LOL

Although the honey is optional, I always try to infuse it as I have noticed over the years that it is used in many natural remedies. Which can only mean one thing, it loaded with beneficial natural healing properties. Stick to the smaller jars if possible, the larger ones are sometimes a pain in the you know where, when it comes to using the salve. If stored properly, each batch will last about a year.
