Summer is here, and besides gardening the only other thing that gets me really excited about summer is barbecuing. I am going to give this homemade barbecue sauce recipe a try, before the end of the season.
We all know homemade is always better, and usually way cheaper than store bought. Most of the ingredients you need are readily available in most kitchens. There are 3 different variations you can make sweet & tangy, spicy or smokey.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- dark brown sugar
- cider vinegar (or white distilled)
- worcestershire sauce
- prepared yellow mustard
- honey
- tomato ketchup
- large saucepan
- 14-spice dry rub mix
- cayenne pepper (optional)
- liquid Smoke (optional)
Since we have decided to go the homemade route, I would even go as far as using homemade ketchup for the recipe, but you do not have to. The 14 spice dry rub mix, is the ‘secret’ to this recipe.
Preparation time is about 60 minutes. I love that you do not have to do much, just mix, boil and let simmer while you are busy doing some gardening. Makes about 2 and a half cups. You can store it in your fridge for weeks or even can it for next summer.
