Do you have access to bamboo? Maybe you have it growing in your garden, a neighbors or a family members? You can use it to build homemade cages to hold up your tomatoes so they stay off the ground as they grow. You could opt to buy it, but the whole idea behind these cages was to cut down on gardening expenses and not to increase your costs. These cages are very basic, but they get the job done.

Here’s What You’ll Need
- Bamboo
- Yarn
- Wood Stake
- Knife
You need four posts for each cage and they have to be about the same height. She opts for a length of 40 inches, which will allow the tomato plants to grow to full maturity. Try to use a strong knot when tying the supports into place, this will prolong the life of your cage. They always say before you build make sure you have a strong foundation, for this project each long bamboo post has to be stuck into a hole at least 8 inches deep. From my experience with bamboo structures, they are strong and weather resistant too.
