I seriously have lost count of the number of ways you can grow potatoes. Today I discovered how to grow potatoes in pallets. Very interesting method, especially since you can usually find wood pallets for free.
Usually when you mention pallets, the discussion on whether they are safe to use or not always comes back. As long as you do not use the chemically treated ones stamped ‘MB’ you should be ok.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
- seed potatoes
- wood pallets
- hand drill
- wood screws or nails
- cardboard
- soil
- mulch
- compost
The perfect place to set up your pallet potato planter is in an area that gets a lot of sunshine. Three of the pallets are drilled together into a square structure with an open side. Cardboard laid on the bottom prevents grass from invading your planter.
Lay down a layer of mulch, place your seed potatoes on top of this first layer. How you space your seed potatoes will determine their size, the larger the space between them the larger your potatoes will be.
A layer of compost and then another layer of mulch is added on top of the seed potatoes. You keep repeating this process as the potatoes sprout through the last layer.
