DIY Crocheted Hammock

I guess we are going to call this, the year of the hammock. Maybe its because once you go hammock you never go back. Earlier this year we had our hands full with this diy hammock stand. Well I decided to try make a different version, this diy crocheted hammock.

Unlike the other one, this one does not require too many tools. So I won’t be bothering the hubby, it is more the crochet, which is actually a centuries old technique of macrame that is used for making among other things plant holders and furniture. It is basically just tying the rope together in a special pattern.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • rope
  • macrame cord or rope
  • hardwood dowels
  • wood screws
  • hand drill
  • scissors
  • measuring tape
  • sand paper

Ok, so let us start by getting rid of all the work that requires the drill. I just copied the measurements provided with the plans, but made sure that all the holes were in line and also level. The measurements are not the same for the two different size dowels. I did go ahead and sand the holes too after drilling them.

The dowels will make a square frame, slip the thinner ones into the thicker one before using the wood screws to hold them together. Now you are ready to start the macrame. What I did was hang the frame on our porch, then I got to work. Took a few tries to get it right, but eventually I got the hang of it.
