Quick question for you? How many ways do think there are to build a rocket stove? If you asked me a few years ago, I would have probably said, just one. Then I found out that besides the most common diy rockect stove, which is simple to build and is basically just laying bricks in a particular manner without concrete. There is also more complex designs available such as the diy beer keg rocket stove this diy concrete rocket stove.
Now most of us, when we hear the word concrete we immediately think of strong and heavy. Oh and I thick some think of rebar too, but I digress. Well, unlike the popular version this design is more portable. Since it most likely be heavy, you may have to roll it from one location to the next. You won’t need any special skills to make one of these and total cost of project will be about $20.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
- quikrete
- 4″ PVC pipe
- rebar
- 5 gallon plastic buckets
- hole cutter drill attachment
- handheld drill
- hacksaw
- marker
- jigsaw
- duct tape
The best way to tackle this project is probably to prep all your materials first. This means the PVC pipe has to be cut into two at a 45 degree angle, so that the two pieces can make a right angle when joined together. The sections of rebar need to be bent at right angles, and the hole in the side of the bucket cut out, so you can insert the bottom PVC pipe.
With the materials prepped you can them mix the concrete and start building your stove. The first bucket will mold the actual stove and then any leftover concrete is poured into the second bucket to make the base. Even after you let the concrete dry, it is still recommended that you cure it using heat from an actual fire a few times to prevent any cracks forming when in use.
