How To Freeze Fresh Kale

Show me one gardener who does not love growing kale in their garden, and I will show you a fake gardener. LOL. I am just kidding with you. However seriously this is usually one of the easiest veggies to grow that often than not you are left with plenty of it at the end of the season. Learning how to freeze kale, is a great way to store it for future use.

When you freeze it, you can use it for making things like super healthy smoothies. The process itself is pretty simple, the problem might actually only be having enough space in your freezer to hold all your frozen produce. Some people prefer to blanche their kale before freezing it, it is totally up to you.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • fresh kale
  • vinegar
  • kitchen towel
  • cookie sheet or dehydrator tray
  • ziploc bags
  • spatula or icing spreader

Make sure that you remove the thick ribs and separate all the leaves. You then want to soak the kale in a mixture of water and vinegar to try remove all the dirt particles. Allow the kale to dry out on a kitchen towel on the counter after soaking.

The first step in the freezing process is the flash freeze, which involves laying the kale on cookie sheet or dehydrator trays and placing in your freezer. As soon as it is frozen you should work quickly to break it and pack it into ziploc bags. Remove any air and store in the freezer.
