Homemade Organic Rabbit Feed Recipe

I decided to give the chickens a rest in today’s post and talk about the rabbits instead. After building them their own diy rabbit hutch, they seem to be happier these days. We have been feeding them mostly organic green stuff but the other day I discovered this homemade organic rabbit feed recipe.

The advantage of making your own feed is that it will be GMO Free. The recipe I found was developed for Angora rabbits which require more protein than other breeds, but I am sure any breed would enjoy this feed too. You should see bigger litters and way less diseases or infections.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • whole oats
  • whole wheat
  • whole barley
  • dried peas or split peas
  • whole flax seed
  • whole sunflower seed
  • plastic bucket

The recipe is pretty simple, all you have to do is mix all the ingredients in a plastic bucket or another container. I love that the recipe allows you to adjust the various quantities of the individual ingredients based on the needs of your rabbits. Do not forget to add fresh produce to their diet it provides the minerals and vitamins they need.

As far as how much you should feed them, we have followed the recommendations of one cup per day and it seems to be the right portion. However, since we currently do not have any lactating does I have not had a chance to see whether they require the extra feed which is about a half cup extra each day.
