Did you know that you can, can dry goods too? Most people would just store dried stuff away in tins or Tupperware in cupboards or the pantry. However if you were to start using oven canning for for your dry goods, you can prolong their lifespan for up to 20 years. Most store packed stuff would never last that long, hence I do believe learning this skill is well worth your time. If you are a ‘prepper’, you definitely want to master the art of oven canning, you may even become addicted to it. Some of the dry goods that you can use this method for include rice, cereal, pasta, dried vegetables, dried fruit and herbs.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- Dry goods
- Canning jars with lids
- Cookie sheet
- Paper towel
- Water
Before you get started make sure you have preheated your oven. The cookie sheet will hold your jars when you place them in the oven. This method requires you leave the jars in there for about 60 minutes. After that you have to pull them out and place the lids on the jars listening for that infamous canning pop, that confirms that your jars have been sealed correctly. Simple method, that does not require any special equipment.
