How To Protect Tomato Plants With Bubble Wrap

I know my girls love playing with bubble wraps. If they are not popping the ‘bubbles’ they are busy wrapping themselves in it. About a year back I showed you how to fight tomato blight using pennies as well as how to prune tomato plants. Today’s post will be a step by step tutorial on how to protect tomato plants with bubble wrap.

As with any plant in your garden, I love to arm myself with as many tomato growing tricks that I possibly can. This in turn increase the chances of being able to deal with situations that may arise. The bubble wrap will protect the tomato plant from the harsh effects of frost as well as cold winds. This is the perfect way to save money on a wall of water, it works just as well. Let’s get wrapping, shall we?

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Step By Step Instructions

Step 1.

If your tomato plant does not already have a cage, install one.

Step 2.

Wrap the bubble wrap starting from the ground around the tomato cage. Make sure you wrap it at least another foot above the height of your tomato plant.

Step. 3

Use the scissors to cut the bubble wrap when the plant is well wrapped.

I also like to use duct tape to help keep everything in place. Otherwise you will wake up one morning to a garden covered in bubble wrap. The bubbles in the wrap have air pockets and these act as insulation, providing the protection that your plant requires from the harsh elements. In extreme conditions, you may also have to cover the top with a few layers of bubble wrap, just remember to remove the top cover during the day or you risky toasting your plant inside.
