Easy DIY Terrariums

Well sometimes on the homestead, you get a little extra time to enjoy your hobbies. This is the time I use to try out fun stuff such as the diy simple outdoor bench and the diy rope ottoman. I saw these on Pinterest, thought they were cool, so now I am going to figure out how to make a terrarium.

What is it? It is just some plants growing in an enclosed sometimes closed environment, which in this case is a glass bowl or a mason jar. If you have some relatively glass bowls or jars lying around, these will be perfect for this project. Otherwise you can pick up some at a local dollar store for as little as $1 each. This project should not take you more than an hour to complete or cost more than 20 bucks!

Here’s What You’ll Need:

At the bottom of each glass container you want to place the little rocks, these will help when it comes to drainage. In closed containers, you would add the charcoal next to prevent mold, otherwise skip the charcoal. Add the moss as the next layer, followed by at least an inch of soil before planting you succulent cuttings and covering with more moss and or pebbles.

Keep your glass container away from direct sunlight or you will learn the hard way (as I did) when you wake up one morning and your plant is burnt. Also, water sparingly to avoid root rot. A little sprinkling once a week should do the job. These make good gifts too, so you may want to make a few to give your loved ones as gifts. Have fun! 🙂
