DIY Outdoor Solar Shower

It boggles my mind why more people don’t take advantage of solar energy. It is free energy and it is abundant. One of the reasons most people shy away from solar energy maybe the initial setup costs. Equipment such as the solar panels, batteries and controllers can be very expensive. This is why I love this diy backyard solar shower.

Not only is it simple to build, the materials needed for the project are very affordable too. Tim says he spent about $140 on his, but as always you may already have some of these things lying around your homestead.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • Old water heater tank
  • Black paint
  • Privacy fence
  • Treated Lumber
  • Shut-off valve
  • Shower head
  • Shower base
  • Nails or screws
  • Garden hose
  • Hammer
  • Drill
  • Saw

Before you can use the water heater tank for the shower, you have to strip it down and then finish it off by painting it black. Next build the platform on which it will sit on using the treated lumber. You have to make this structure strong enough so that it can hold up a full tank of water.

The privacy fence is used to build the sides of the shower and the door, just cut and nail down in place creating an enclosure, that your shower base can sit in. Use a garden hose to fill up the tank and then let the sun heat up the water during day. Water should be ready for use daily late in the afternoon.
