How To Make Canning Salt

Canning is one of those activities that have become almost a weekly thing in our kitchen, especially during the gardening season. We can everything over from canned to canned and even canned. Just last week I ran out of canning salt and was thrilled to find out I could make my own canning salt at home.

If you are expecting a complicated process, you are going to be disappointed. You can pretty much whip out your own that is ready for use in less than 5 minutes. As far as ingredients are concerned, you only need one ingredient for your homemade version. Never use table or sea salt when you are canning, they contain supplements and minerals that may alter your food.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • kosher salt
  • blender or grinder
  • mason jars

Alright, with your kosher salt in a cup simply dump it into your blender or grinder. Run it until it is super fine. It should be able to easily dissolve, when being used during the canning process. When the salt is ready, empty into a mason jars and store away in your pantry.

Instead of buying canning salt, you could just use this method to make your own. Oh I almost forgot to tell you this salt, yes the one you just made can also be used when you are pickling stuff. It works just as well there as it does with the canning.
