Homemade Chicken Oatmeal Recipe

Here is a nice hot treat for your chickens in the fall and winter, that they are guaranteed to love. At first I was not sure about feeding our girls this oatmeal. However, I gave this homemade chicken oatmeal recipe a try and I was pleasantly surprised.

This is a quick 5 minute recipe that is very easy to make and flexible. There are many different toppings that you can experiment with until you find one that they love more than the others. Mine seem to love when I mix both raisins and meal worms together, instead of just one of the other.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • oats
  • water
  • raisins
  • wheat grass
  • meal worms
  • sunflower seeds
  • scratch
  • dried and fresh herbs
  • assorted berries
  • microwave bowl
  • microwave
  • spoon
  • small sauce pan (optional)

As already mentioned above the recipe is very simple, you mix the oats, water and your choice topping in a microwave proof bowl. Just pop that into your microwave for up to 4 minutes after which you let it sit and cool for a few minutes. You can add any extra toppings as you wait for it to cool.

If you do not have a microwave, you can boil you water first in a small sauce pan, then add your oatmeal and toppings before allowing it cool. This recipe serves 8 chickens, you can easily scale it up or down as needed. The best time to feed them this treat, is no doubt in the morning. Go ahead give it a try with your chickens! 🙂
