I remember last summer it was so hot that my chickens had to stay in the shade most of the day, and even then I knew they were feeling the heat. So I went on Google to see if I could do anything about it this year and found this homemade chicken pops recipe.
It is basically some fruits and vegetables frozen in a block of ice. As far as cost is concerned there shouldn’t be any. You can use your own fruits or even get some from a neighbor, friend or family.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
- tomatoes
- cucumbers
- watermelon
- cantaloupe
- strawberries
- peaches
- plastic cup or container
- water
You don’t really have to, but you certainly can wash your fruits and vegetables before using them for these treats. Then its just a matter of selecting a few different ones, that compliment each other like strawberries, peaches and cucumbers in a container with water.
Place your containers in the freezer, and leave them to freeze. On a hot summer day just bring one or two of these out and let your chickens enjoy them. I really think that I have solved the excessive heat problem, this year the girls seem to love these.
