DIY Mason Jar Olive Oil Lamp

When you live off grid or in a remote area lighting the home can often be something that is not as easy as when you are within city limits. Of course, I prefer to use renewable energy sources like solar, however sometimes simple things like this diy mason jar olive oil lamp can help too.

What I like about this lamp, is that it is very easy to make and requires materials that are already readily available in your kitchen. I mean who does not have olive oil and mason jars in their kitchen, right?

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • wide mouth mason jar
  • short flexible steel wire
  • wick
  • olive oil
  • pencil
  • pliers
  • essential oil or fragrance oil (optional)
  • dried flowers, herbs or spices (optional)

Quart size mason jars work best for this project. The wire that holds the wick is a bit tricky to make, however do not try to be perfect. You just want something that you can hold the wick above the olive while submerge in the jar.

You can always adjust the height of the holder if you do not get it right the first time. Just pour in your olive oil and any fragrance oil or herbs that you may want to add. This lamp burns a few ounces of olive oil every few hours. Very efficient lamp, me thinks! 🙂
