DIY Hanging Light Bulb Vases

I know most people are now switching to the newer energy saving and long life bulbs. However, don’t throw away your used or burned out incandescent bulbs. Why not turn them into these cute diy hanging light bulb vases, huh?

These are very easy to make and only require less than 10 minutes per bulb. You can have a little fun with the plants or flowers that you put inside your vases. A great place to hang them is on your porch or patio.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • old light bulbs
  • tweezers
  • small screwdriver
  • needle nose pliers
  • flowers
  • twine or string
  • work gloves
  • eye protection
  • plastic bag (optional)
  • water (optiona)

The first step in this project is to pop the top, which is the small silver or brass disk on the top of the light bulb, using the tweezers or the pliers. Expose the inside of the bulb by removing the black glass under the disk and all the inside wires with your pliers. Be careful as the glass may shutter, while you are trying to pry it out.

Securely tie your string or twine around the silver section of the bulb. Fill with water and add your flowers before hanging your vase. The length of your flowers will depend on the size of your light bulbs. You can also just pop in some dried flowers, with no water.
