Greenhouse provide the perfect controlled environment for growing your plants. This diy greenhouse made from old windows is a very interesting design. Who would have thought that you could rummage for old windows from constructions sites, collect them and then use them to build a functional greenhouse.

Unless you have a steady supply of old windows, it may take you a while before you can begin building yours. Cheft says that he collected his over a period of 18 months. As far as cost is concerned, you can expect to spend around $300 on building materials. I love that most of the expensive materials were scavenged and recycled. Kudos!!

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • 2 x 4s for the studs
  • 4 x 4s for the corner posts
  • cinder blocks to support corner posts
  • coated deck screws
  • rocks or stones for floor
  • door hinges
  • outdoor caulk to seal all the cracks
  • durable wood paint for outside.
  • old door hinges
  • PVC pipe
  • concrete (optional)
  • fan for ventilation (optional)

Cheft details his construction process in 10 steps. If you have never built a wooden structure, you may need help on this one from someone who has because the frame has to be built very sturdy to hold all the windows together. Also the size of your greenhouse will depend mostly on how many windows you have available to cover your walls.
