Canning Sausage

OMG! I love the canning granny. Over the past few months I have discovered how to can things that I never knew were possible. Today, was all about canning sausage, yes bratwurst to be exact.

You probably could can just about any type of sausage using this pressure canner method. Just make sure you use wide mouth mason jars. They are way easier to stuff the sausages into than the normal ones.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • fresh sausages
  • tongs
  • wide mouth mason jars
  • damp cloth
  • vinegar
  • pressure canner
  • magnetic wand
  • jar lifter
  • kitchen towel

She recommends that before you can them, that you pop them into the oven for about 10 to 15 minutes at 400 degrees F. This is just so that they brown a little, otherwise the canning process actually cooks them.

As always your jars and lids, should be washed and kept hot until they are used. Always follow instructions for your canner, hers  suggests 10 pounds of pressure for about 90 minutes.
