Here’s What You’ll Need:

– apple seedling or plant
– large containter (4 to 5 feet)
– potting soil
– general-purpose timed-release fertilizer
– home orchard spray for pests and diseases

The best time to plant apple trees is between Spring and Fall. Fertilize with fertilizer in the spring. Keep in an area that gets sunshine and water well.

Your apple tree will need to be trained to help it stay stable and healthy. It also will need to be pruned every year around end of winter and early spring. Remove any flowers in the first year, to help the tree develop at a faster rate.

Some pests and diseases to watch out for include Apple maggot, Apple scab, Cedar-apple rust, Codling moth, Fireblight and Powdery mildew.

Harvest your apples anytime from August to October, it all depends on the variety you select. Enjoy your fresh apples, make apple pies, can apple sauce and more.
