Some may like to call them dessert, but I prefer to call them treats. Remember the lemon meltaways recipe, the mini pineapple upside down recipe and the homemade krispy kreme creme? Well today we are going to add on to that list of delicious-ness with these strawberry jam filled donuts.
Undoubtedly there are probably a million other donut recipes out there, but for today we we will be concentrating on this particular one. It does not matter if you are not a fan of strawberry jam, you can just substitute it with your favorite jam. The rest of the ingredients are pretty straight forward and easily available in any grocery store. Let’s get baking, shall we?
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- flour
- salt
- dry active yeast
- lukewarm milk
- sugar
- large eggs
- unsalted butter
- strawberry jam or jam of choice
- vegetable oil
- icing sugar
- mixing bowl
- small bowl
- rolling pin
- round cookie cutter
- baking sheet
- fryer
- pastry bag
- 1/2 ” round tip
Yeast is the secret ingredient, that will need to be activated first before you can add it to the flour. That should take at least 5 minutes but sometimes all the way up to 10 minutes. After adding the yeast to the flour in the mixing bowl, you can add the eggs as well as the butter too.
If you loved play-doh, you will love the next part which is kneading the dough.
The dough sits covered for 2 hours, after which it should be double the original size. There will be a little kneading, then followed by some rolling and eventually cutting into rounds. The donuts are actually fried in oil, then left to cool before filling them with jam. Don’t forget the light dusting of icing sugar for the finishing touch. Yummy! 🙂
