Well it is not yet Halloween, but who says you cannot enjoy this specialty grape nevertheless. In an earlier blog post, I shared how to grow grapes from seeds. Those were the normal ones that are available to every tom dick and harry. Today we will be looking at how to grow witch finger grapes.
I have only recently started discovering the many different grape varieties that are available. However, the good thing is that most are planted the same way as you would do any grape variety. Their strange shape as well as their sweet taste makes them stand out from most other varieties. When ripe they will turn a nice maroon color and tend to be bunched up in clusters on the vines, like in the picture below.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
As already mentioned above, growing this variety of grapes is very similar to most other varieties. They will thrive in a nice sunny location that has a soil pH between 5.0 and 6.0. The spacing will be between 4 to 8 feet apart and depend on whether you are using a trellis or poles for support. Water regularly until established and fertilize at least once every year. Pruning is at least once every year is also recommended around early Spring or late Winter.
