Today, we will be talking about another close family member of that species as we look how to grow grow jackfruit from seeds.

It is said that the Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus) tree has its origins in South East Asia. Although not very common in the United States, other countries such as Bangaladesh and Sri Lanka have made it their national fruit. The tree itself can grow up to 80 feet tall and the fruit is the biggest fruit of any tree currently known to man. One fruit can weight as much as 120 pounds and be about 3 feet in length. As far as taste is concerned, I would say it is like a mix between grapefruit and banana. LOL

Here’s What You’ll Need:

jack fruit seeds
plastic container with lid or ziploc bag
paper towel
spray bottle
organic garden soil
large container

When you eat the fruit, you will find seeds in there remove them and clean them. Then soak them in a small container overnight or for up to 24 hour. The next day you can dampen a paper towel and place it in either a container or a ziploc bag. Place the seeds on top of the damp paper towel, cover or zip up and store in a warm area until germination which should occur within 7 to 10 days.

Fill a deep container with well draining organic garden soil, and plant your sprouted seeds about an inch deep. Remember to water your container daily, and you should slowly start to see the seedling grow. After a couple of weeks you can transfer the seedling into an even bigger container or your garden. Fertilize your tree every 6 months and it will start bearing fruit within 3 to 4 years.
