DIY Wooden Crate Bookshelf

The other day I was looking at the pile of books that is building up in the girls bedroom and I knew I had to come up with a solution before things got out of hand. I already built the diy wood pallet boat shelf for our living area and that has no more space. So I found this diy wooden crate bookshelf idea online.

Naturally, I had to sift through a thousand diy bookshelf ideas, but this one spoke to me. It is probably because I have a couple of these crates lying around that initially I was going to dismantle and re-purpose the wood for other projects. However, if I use them for this particular project I save myself a lot of time and energy. No don’t say it, I am not lazy! LOL

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Alright, so we start with the hard work which involves sanding down the crates. It’s way easier with the sander, but if you are going to use sand paper you may need a few helping hands. Make sure you dust them off before you begin the staining process. Then of course you have to wait for the stain to dry off, I would give it a good day or so.

If you want to prolong the lifespan of the bookshelf, it may be wise to go the extra mile and wax the crates in order to protect the wood. The final step is assembling the bookshelf, if you loved LEGO or Mega Bloks when you were a kid, you are going to love this whole process. Make sure that you drill in some extra screws so that your bookshelf is sturdy.
