With Winter slowly creeping upon us, the smart ones are getting ready to bare another few months of often extreme cold weather. In the past I have shown you how to prep your garden for winter as well as how grow tomatoes indoors in winter. We presently don’t have any cats but I wanted to share this diy winter cat shelter, for those who may need it.
I don’t know too much about diy cat shelters, but I know about easy diy projects and this is definetely one of them. Make sure that one of your storage bins can fit inside the other one. Also please not that hay cannot be substituted for the straw this particular project. I think it is best to reuse some old storage bins, it is going to save you some money too. If you build it right, your cats will be happy and warm all winter long.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- 2 storage bins with lids
- straw bale
- sharp knife of box cutter
- hair dryer
- permanent marker
- tape measure or ruler
- dinner plate (optional)
So the first step is marking out the door way on both containers. You want a circle that is at least 4 inches from the bottom of the container and at least 6 inches in diameter. Then you can use the hair dryer to soften the plastic before cutting out the marked doorway. Next you can stuff the straw in around the two containers to insulate the shelter. It’s just that easy.
