Whilst spring cleaning the other day, I found a few picture frames that were no longer in use. Just like the diy old towel bath mats as well as the diy rglass bottle vase, I was pretty sure I could upcycle them. After a few hours of research on the internet, I have decided to build one of these diy tiered tray from picture frames.
As far as diy re-purposing projects are concerned, this one has a lot going on. Not only are the picture frames upcycled, but you can also get your wood from pallets. The only problem is as long as the wood is untreated, the tray is not safe for food use. Additionally you are also going to need to coat the tray with a wood sealer. Otherwise, it looks great for decorative purposes.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- picture frames
- chalky paint
- wood
- miter saw
- wood glue
- satin poly
- handheld drill
- wooden candlestick and finial
- wood sealer (optional)
The glass is not necessary for this project, so remove any glass and store away for future projects. In order to enhance the look of the tray, it is recommended that you paint your picture frames. While you let it dry you can work on making the wood bottoms for the trays.
With your frames primed and ready, assembly can become. In between each tray, you can attach the candlestick to hold everything together. Instead of just using wood glue, it probably would be sturdier if you screw the candlestick in place too. The decorative wooden finial, is optional.
