Today I woke up in a garden diy mood, and so that is what this post is going to cover. We have covered numerous such projects in past, such as the diy garden stick fence as well as the diy brick garden bench. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don’t believe I have shared how to build a squash arch for you garden, as yet.
Undoubtedly there are probably many different squash trellis designs, however this particular one is an arch. It allows the squash to grow off the ground, up and over your other plants. You could probably weld an arch like this out of metal, but the more cost effective way is to erect one using PVC piping. Although portable, I don’t see any reason for relocating it once you have set it up.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- PVC pipe
- pvc glue
- metal garden fence
- plastic spray paint
- tape measure
- hacksaw
- miter saw (optional)
With your tape measure out, you want to measure the pieces that you will need to assemble your arch. The next step, would be to cut the pieces and lay them out on the ground to make sure you have everything you need. When certain, you can then start the assembly by gluing together the pieces using the pvc glue.
The top of the arch is reinforced by weaving the pipe in and out the fence. Once the main structure is complete, you can then place the arch in its desired location before spray painting. Make sure the paint is completely dry before you plant your squash in the ground.
