When I first started gardening, I tried to avoid building one of these. Eventually I gave in and ended up with useful structures such as the diy mini polytunnel greenhouse and the diy walipini underground greenhouse. Earlier on this year, I discovered this diy fold down pvc greenhouse on Pinterest.
I have seen my fair share of diy greenhouse designs over the years. It is not very often that I run into something that excites me. This particular one allows you to enjoy the benefits of a greenhouse only when you require them. It’s made from PVC and plastic sheeting, making it very affordable. This is an easy beginner project, that you can complete in just about 2 hours or less.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- 1″ PVC pipes
- 1″ elbow fittings
- 1″ tee fittings
- 1¼” tee fittings
- ¾” long pieces metal conduit
- ¾” lath washer head screws
- 3″ bolts
- 4 mm plastic sheeting
- coated light-duty utility chain
- spring links
- 1¼” pipe straps
- plastic-body spring clamps
- bricks or pavers
- hacksaw
- jigsaw
- miter saw
- rubber mallet or sledge hammer
- drill or driver
- spring clamps
- ¾” soil or garden auger drill attachment (optional)
The perfect location for your greenhouse has to be along a wall at least 10 feet in length in a flat area that gets at least 6 hours of sun every single day. Use the plans to guide you when measuring and cutting your PVC pipe. Before assembly starts, make sure that you have all the pieces required for your greenhouse.
The frame is the structure that holds everything together, this is what will take up most of your time. With the frame complete, you can move on to attaching the plastic sheeting onto the frame. There are various spring links and chains, attached to the frame that help when folding and unfolding your greenhouse. Whenever it is not in use, keep the greenhouse folded up against the wall.
