Now you can easily hide your valuables in ‘plain sight’ right there in your closet! Huh? Yep, you read that right. All you need is this diy fabric closet safe and you’re good to go. Remember the previous blog posts on the diy fabric tortilla warmer, diy fabric jar opener and the diy fabric bowl covers? Those posts like this one, all required the use of your sewing machine. So dust it off and let’s get started, shall we?
This is one of those advanced beginner sewing patterns, that we should all give a try. It is actually not too complicated, especially because she is very detailed in her instructions. I love that this safe is versatile in that you can use it at home in your closet or if need be it can be taken on the road when you travel. It’s just unfortunate that the pattern is for a wire hanger, so you may need to scavenge for one of those, if your closet now only has plastic ones.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- fabric or a remnant
- lining fabric or remnant
- bias binding (optional)
- Pellon 808 Interfacing
- 14″ zippers
- sewing supplies
- seam ripper
- basting tape
- sewing machine
- knitting needle
You’ll need to print out the provided pattern, before you can begin cutting the required fabric pieces. The interfacing has to be fused to the outer fabrics and pocket pieces before you can add the zipper tabs. With the tabs in place, the first zipper for the center safe can then be attached to the ‘valuables’ pocket. All that’s left is to complete the rest of the safe following the detailed step by step instructions and before you know it, the safe is complete.
