Simple DIY Chick Brooder

I am expecting some new chicks, but before they come I wanted to make sure that I had upgraded the lchick brooder. I found this simple diy chick brooder that I think will be just perfect.

It looks simple enough to build and the materials should not cost too much. As usual I will look around the homestead to see if I can find some good substitutes.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • plastic container with lockable lid
  • infrared lamp
  • 1/2″ square wire mesh
  • machine screws with nuts and washers
  • hand drill
  • tape measure
  • small pliers
  • screw driver
  • marker
  • chick feeder and waterer
  • pine shavings (optional)

The hardest part of this projects will probably be cutting the two holes in the top lid. One hole is for the infrared light trays the other is to allow airflow.

The wire mesh covers the holes so that the chicks can not escape as well as stops any predators from entering the chick brooder. Very simple design, that works.
