How To Roast Tomatoes

Do not get me wrong, I do love my fresh tomatoes. However, there is just something about roasted tomatoes in your salads that adds a nice tangy flavor.

Roasting tomatoes may also help when it comes to long term storage. The best type of tomatoes to oven roast are the Roma and plum tomatoes. They have more flesh and juice.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • fresh tomatoes
  • aluminum foil
  • cookie baking sheet
  • knife
  • olive or canola oil
  • salt
  • pepper
  • glass jars (optional)
  • air tight container (optional)

Your tomatoes should have no blemishes, cut them in half and lay them on the baking sheet with the cut side facing upwards. For a little seasoning add a little olive oil, salt and pepper.

Roast in a preheated oven for about 30 minutes at 450 degrees F. They are ready when they start releasing juices and become dark around the edges. Store in your fridge or freezer in a jar or an air tight container.
