How To Keep Lettuce Fresh For 30 Days

I know, I know when you have plenty of it in your garden, preserving it is the last thing on your mind. However, just like how to make fresh herbs last longer it doesn’t hurt to learn how to do it anyway, right? Today we shall be looking at how to make your fresh lettuce last for up to 30 days in your fridge.

I have done quite a considerable amount of research on fresh produce preservation techniques online. When it comes to lettuce you want to try by all means to reduce its exposure to moisture and air. The more successfully you can pull this off, the longer you can preserve your fresh lettuce for. These preservation methods should work for most if not all the different lettuce varieties that are available.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Method #1: Mason Jars

Wash your lettuce and leave it to drain in a colander. Make sure it is dry before cutting it into smaller (salad size) pieces on your cutting board and stuffing into the jars. Pack it loosely in the jars, and add a small piece of paper towel at the top before screwing on the lid.

Method #2: Ziploc Bags

Prep your lettuce as above. However, instead of cutting it into smaller pieces, just stuff the full leaves into the bag as is. Zip the bag about 95% of the way and then insert a straw which you will use for sucking out all the air inside the bag. Remove the straw and completely zip up the bag.
