Growing vegetables in the garden is what most gardeners will prefer. However, sometimes when there is not enough space or the weather does not allow you may have to look at container gardening options. We have already looked at growing kale in your garden, today let us look at how to grow kale in containers.

What I love about kale is that it is biennial. This means that you can pretty much grow it throughout the year, even in cool weather. Hot summer months, can often cause problems. Keep in mind that kale requires a lot of space, therefore each pot should only carry one pot. Also make sure that your container is at least a foot wide.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • kale seeds
  • container or pot
  • potting soil
  • mulch
  • soluble fertilizer

The best time to plant your kale seeds directly into your container is just after the last frost. Make sure that your container is located in an area that gets at least 6 hours of sunlight daily. Do not over expose your plants to sunlight or they might start wilting and eventually die.

Apply some mulch around your kale plant, to help with conserving water. You plant will require watering at least two times every week. Fertilizer can be applied dissolved in your water every two weeks. When it is time to harvest, start from the bottom of the plant and leave at least 4 leaves to promote growth.
