How To Grow Grapes From Seeds

Today was one of those days when I woke up feeling like doing the almost impossible. We have discussed growing grapes in containers already in the past. However, I decided I would give growing grapes from seeds another shot today. The first attempt was a dismal failure. lol

Ok, if you do not already know this most grapes are grown from grafts or cuttings. Why you ask? Well because it is not only very hard, but it also takes forever to try to germinate the seeds. I love challenges in the garden, and this one was definitely worth all the effort. As I set out to grow grapes from seeds extracted from grapes I got from out neighbor.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • grape seedshow
  • ziplock bag
  • sand
  • vermiculite
  • peat moss
  • paper towel
  • trellis
  • small pots
  • potting soil

Before you can begin, make sure that you have selected the right variety to grow for your intended purpose as well as your area. After checking the integrity of your seeds, wash them and then soak them for at least 24 hours. Fill the ziploc bag with damp peat moss or paper towel, place your seeds inside.

Seal the bag and place it in your fridge for at least 60 days. Don’t make the mistake I made the first time when I allowed the seeds to freeze. You typically want to plant one seed per pot and allow up to 21 days for germination to occur. Plant a few pots to increase your chances.
