How To Grow French Tarragon

Are you ready to get introduced to yet another herb that is not very popular but adds some great flavors to your cooking. This one is actually one of the four fine herbs of French cooking. Well ready or not, you are already reading so let us look at how to grow tarragon.

There are few different varieties, like French tarragon and Russian tarragon. The French variety can only be propagated from cuttings, but the Russian variety can be grown from seeds. Tarragon can be used for bread stuffing, béarnaise sauce, Tarragon vinegar as well as egg, chicken and fish dishes. In warmer climates, this herb is perennial.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • tarragon cuttings or seeds
  • water glass
  • water
  • small pot or container
  • potting soil
  • organic fertilizer

In this post we will be looking at how to propagate tarragon from cuttings. Take your water glass, fill it about 3/4 full with water and the put your tarragon cutting in there. Keep the glass on a window sill which gets a lot of sunshine.

Wait for about 7 to 14 days and you should see some roots starting to grow from the cuttings. Transfer it to your pots with potting soil, and water. You can add a little organic fertilizer. This herb stores well frozen, dried or in some vinegar.
