Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • coffee seeds or seedling
  • organic fertilizer
  • sandy clay soil
  • seedling trays
  • large plant container
  • large plastic bag (optional)
  • grow lights (optional)

They grown from seeds and do best in sandy clay soil. Your coffee plant must be placed in an area that receives sunlight and you may need to introduce artificial light during the winter, in colder climates. The soil must stay moist and the humidity in the area high.

Apply light fertilizer every 2 to 3 months in the spring and summer. The coffee tree will take a long time to produce any coffee, usually up to 5 years or more. Then it will flower at least two times a year, if you look after it very well.

Harvest the ripe fruit, the coffee tree will start to lose a lot of its leaves when it is ready to harvest. Remove the flesh, wash and dry the beans inside for a few days. Roast the beans and grind them before making your cup of coffee.
