Homemade Vanilla Extract Recipe

If you are a serious about your baking, today is probably the best day to try convince you to ditch the store bought version and start using homemade vanilla extract instead.

Apart from saving yourself some money, by making your own you will also know exactly what is in your vanilla and you won’t have to worry about added corn syrup. You only need two ingredients for this recipe.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • vanilla beans
  • small glass bottle
  • vodka
  • paring knife

Step By Step Instructions

1. Grab your beans, hold the top and slice it into two.

2. Then scrape the beans out using the dull side of the paring knife and place that into your bottle.

3. Cover the beans in the bottle with one cup of vodka for every five vanilla beans.

4. Put a top or cork on your bottle and shake well for at least 30 seconds.

5. Place the bottle in a cool dry place for up to 6 weeks, remember to shake the bottle weekly.

After six weeks the contents should have a dark brown color and have a rich buttery aroma. The longer you let your homemade vanilla extract the stronger the flavor will become.
