Homemade Sopapillas Recipe

Some would swear that dessert is the best part of any meal and I would definitely agree. I am guilty though of being lazy and resorting to simple things like homemade ice cream or homemade instant chocolatepudding for dessert. When I have a little more time, one of my favorite go to recipes is this sweet homemade sopapillas recipe.

What on earth are sopapillas? They are a Mexican pastry dessert with honey. Why this recipe you ask? Well, well, well not only is it pretty straight forward, it also does not require too much active cooking time. How does it taste, when compared to the ones served in Mexican restaurants? You probably already know the answer to this question, homemade always tastes better. This recipe makes at least 12 sopapillas.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Add your flour baking powder as well as the salt to the bowl. Melt the butter in a saucepan and add that with the water to the dry ingredients. Mix everything well until you have a smooth dough. You can adjust the moisture in the dough by adding a little water or flour.

Bring your oil to about 375 degrees F. Meanwhile while you wait you can roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface and then cut into small squares. Fry in the hot oil for a minute each. They should fluff up and also turn light brown. I always let mine drain all the extra oil out on paper towels, feel free to sprinkle with your choice of sugar, honey or cinnamon. Enjoy! 🙂
